Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Wayward Found LLC, a South Dakota limited liability company ("Wayward Found," "we," "us," or "our"), provides an AI-powered Christian discipleship platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you use our website, web application, mobile applications, AI-assisted features, subscription features, Stories of Grace workflows, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

This Policy is intended to describe our practices. It is not intended to create a pastoral, counseling, medical, legal, fiduciary, or other privileged relationship.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide.

  • Account information, such as name, email address, password, account settings, and communications preferences.
  • Profile and devotional preferences, such as denomination, Bible translation preference, spiritual maturity level, and other optional information you choose to provide.
  • Location information you choose to share, such as a city and state you type on Find a Church, or your approximate device location if you tap "Use my location" and allow your browser to share it. We request coarse rather than high-accuracy location, use it only to find churches near you for that search, and do not store it with your account. See Section 4.1 for what is shared with our maps and place-data provider.
  • User-generated content, such as prompts, prayers, journal entries, scripture notes, AI Spiritual Director conversations, feedback, and support messages.
  • Stories of Grace submissions and community-submission materials, including text, audio, video, testimony content, transcripts, captions, tags, review notes, and shareable derivative assets.
  • Subscription and billing-related information. Stripe, as our payment processor and billing platform, collects and processes payment-card, payment-account, wallet, billing-address, and transaction information; we receive limited billing, subscription, receipt, tax, dispute, and transaction information needed to manage your subscription, support requests, refunds, chargebacks, and tax records.

2.2 Information collected automatically.

  • Usage information, such as pages viewed, features used, prompts submitted, outputs generated, interactions, timestamps, and product events.
  • Device, browser, and log information, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, referring URLs, access times, and security logs.
  • Cookie and similar-technology information, as described in Section 6.

2.3 Sensitive spiritual and religious information. The Service may involve information about your faith, religious beliefs, prayer life, spiritual practices, church involvement, emotional state, and personal testimony. We treat this information as sensitive within our operational controls. Outside the United States, some of this information may be regulated as special-category or sensitive data.

2.4 U.S. sensitive personal information. Some information you provide, including information about religious or philosophical beliefs, prayer life, spiritual practices, testimony content, and, in some cases, emotional or health-related information you choose to include, may be treated as "sensitive personal information" or "sensitive data" under certain U.S. state privacy laws. We use this information to provide, secure, personalize, moderate, and operate the Service; to process the workflows you request; and for the other purposes described in this Policy. We do not sell this information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it to build third-party advertising profiles. To the extent an applicable state privacy law requires consent for processing sensitive data or gives you a right to limit our use or disclosure of sensitive personal information, you may exercise that right by contacting support@waywardfound.com.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • provide, operate, personalize, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service;
  • generate AI-assisted prayers, scripture commentary, journaling reflections, Spiritual Director conversations, summaries, tags, moderation results, and shareable content suggestions;
  • process subscriptions, cancellations, refunds, receipts, billing support, sales-tax calculation and reporting where configured, and chargebacks through Stripe and related tools;
  • review, moderate, transcribe, de-identify, publish, remove, or decline Stories of Grace and other submissions;
  • detect account sharing, misuse, abuse, fraud, security incidents, prompt-injection attempts, or violations of the Terms of Service;
  • provide crisis-resource notices or safety interventions where product logic detects relevant content, without guaranteeing detection or intervention;
  • communicate with you about account, product, legal, security, subscription, and support matters; and
  • comply with law, enforce legal terms, establish or defend legal claims, and protect rights, safety, and security.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under applicable U.S. state privacy law. We also do not use spiritual content to build third-party advertising profiles. We share information as described below.

4.1 Service providers. We share information with service providers that help operate the Service, such as AWS for hosting and storage, OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar AI providers for AI processing, moderation, and operational support, Amazon Transcribe or similar providers for transcription, Stripe for payment processing, subscription billing, customer billing portal, receipts, tax calculation where configured, refunds, and payment disputes, email and support providers, security tools, and analytics or operational tools if implemented.

Find a Church uses Google Places data to build and refresh the list of churches in an area. Most searches are answered from records we already hold. When you search an area we have not gathered yet, we send that location to Google to look up churches there: the city and state you typed, or the approximate coordinates your browser provided if you chose "Use my location." We do not send your name, email address, account identifier, or any of your spiritual content with that lookup, and we do not keep a record of your location tied to your account. We retain only a coarse area marker, roughly an 11-kilometer cell and not linked to any person, so the same area is not looked up repeatedly. Separately, internal staff tools display Google Maps, which lets Google receive standard request information such as IP address and browser details.

We configure, or will configure before using the applicable production feature, available business/API-level settings so that prompts, User Content, transcripts, and outputs are not used by AI providers to train or improve their general models where such settings are made available to us. For audio/video transcription and similar AI services, this includes enabling available service-improvement opt-out controls before using those features for production user submissions, where those controls are available to our account. We do not intentionally opt in to provider model-training use of your content.

4.2 Human reviewers and publication workflows. Stories of Grace and similar submissions may be visible to authorized human reviewers for moderation, safety, quality, mission-fit, and publication decisions. If a workflow involves reviewers designated by a church, ministry, or organization, the product flow should identify that reviewer role before you submit content.

4.3 Church affiliation. If you choose a church in your account settings, administrators at that church can see that you are affiliated with them, along with your name and the date you chose them. This lets a church leader find you to offer you a role, such as reviewing stories or prayer requests. They do not see your email address or phone number, and they do not see your prayers, journal entries, Spiritual Director conversations, or other content you create in the Service. Choosing a church is yours to set, change, or remove at any time in settings, and only you can change it. Some features let you share specific content with your church, such as posting to a church prayer wall or submitting a story. Those are separate choices you make at the time, and each one tells you what will be shared before you submit.

4.4 Legal, safety, and rights protection. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena, court order, legal process, or government request, or is necessary to protect rights, safety, security, users, the public, Wayward Found, or the Service.

4.5 Business transfers. We may disclose or transfer information in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal protections.

5. Spiritual Content and Confidentiality Limits

We recognize that prayer, journaling, Spiritual Director conversations, and testimony content can be deeply personal. We restrict access to this content to systems, service providers, and personnel with a need to process it for the purposes described in this Policy.

However, communications with the Service are not clergy-penitent, therapist-patient, attorney-client, medical, or other privileged communications. The Service is not a crisis line, pastoral office, counseling practice, medical provider, law firm, or emergency service. We may access, process, disclose, preserve, or remove content as described in this Policy and the Terms of Service.

6. Cookies and Privacy Controls

The Service uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for login sessions, security, authentication, CSRF protection, account preferences, and Service operation.

The Service does not currently use analytics, advertising, tracking, or other non-essential cookies, and therefore does not currently display a cookie consent banner.

If we introduce analytics, advertising, tracking, or other non-essential cookies, we will update these disclosures and provide any consent or opt-out controls required by applicable law, including a consent-management tool with prior blocking of non-essential cookies where applicable.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain your account, operate subscriptions, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, protect security, and maintain appropriate business records.

When you delete prayers, journal entries, conversations, or similar content, the content may be soft-deleted first and then scheduled for permanent deletion after a reasonable period, currently targeted at 30 days unless legal, security, backup, dispute, or operational needs require longer retention.

Transcripts, summaries, tags, moderation results, share-card suggestions, and other derivatives tied to a source submission are generally retained for the life of the source submission and deleted or de-identified with that submission, subject to backups, legal holds, security records, and prior public distribution.

8. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, restrict, or object to certain processing of personal information, and to appeal a denied request. You may submit requests to support@waywardfound.com.

We will verify and respond to requests as required by applicable law. Some information may be exempt from deletion or access requests, including information retained for security, legal compliance, dispute resolution, transaction records, or rights protection.

9. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, encryption at rest where appropriate, secure password hashing, access controls, logging, and least-privilege practices. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Age Restriction

The Service is intended only for adults who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a person under 18 has created an account or submitted personal information, we will take reasonable steps to delete the information and terminate the account, subject to legal and security retention needs.

11. International Users

The Service is currently intended for users located in the United States. We do not intentionally offer paid subscriptions to users located in the United Kingdom, European Union, European Economic Area, Switzerland, or other non-U.S. jurisdictions at this time. We may restrict registration, access to paid features, subscription purchases, or other access where we determine that a user is located outside the United States. Access from outside the United States does not mean that we are targeting, offering, or localizing the Service for that jurisdiction. If we expand to the United Kingdom, European Union, European Economic Area, Switzerland, or other jurisdictions, additional privacy, consumer, cookie, representative, transfer, and platform-law disclosures or controls may be required before launch.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy and update the "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by applicable law.
